WORKSHOPS FOR STUDENT JAZZ ENSEMBLES
GUIDELINES (2007-08)
Band directors with student big bands or combos of all ages are encouraged to bring their performing groups for a workshop (clinic) at Frederick P. Rose Hall, the home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The following are basic guidelines but we would work to customize your visit to fit your needs.
Costs – Contact us for specific costs. Most workshops are two-hours, however longer workshops may be scheduled. The fee includes artist/clinician fee, room rental, piano, chairs, and stands. Additional instruments/equipment can be rented for an additional fee.
Clinicians – We have a roster of outstanding artist/clinicians and we'll work with the band director to identify a clinician best suited for his or her group. Some of our clinicians are listed here.
Scheduling – Subject to availability in the studio spaces at Frederick P. Rose Hall, a "hold" can be put in the calendar as soon as we know there is an interest. Contact us as early as possible for best availability. If a school is traveling during the busy spring season, Friday morning or early afternoon is preferred.
Repertoire – Bands should prepare three charts for a two-hour workshop, one of which has to be a blues. Bands are also asked to prepare one chart (which can also count as your blues) from the following Jazz at Lincoln Center print music series available here.

Additional Opportunities
- Nesuhi Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame – Located within Frederick P. Rose Hall and free and open to the public 10am-4pm, Tuesday–Saturday, visitors can feel the energy of legendary jazz artists as the hall offers a colorful insight to their artistry, sense of humor, and passion for music. Visitors can immerse themselves in the lives and artistry of jazz's best through this multimedia installation featuring interactive kiosks and projections screens.
Performances
- Jazz at Lincoln Center Concerts – Group tickets are available to Jazz at Lincoln Center concerts throughout the year. Visit the group sales page or email groupsales@jalc.org for more information.
- Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola – Group rates are available to attend our jazz club, open nightly with sets at 7:30pm & 9:30pm with an additional set at 11:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Additional after hours sets follow the last set of each night. Monday evenings are dedicated to the Upstarts! program which features outstanding student musicians in the NYC area. - Performing at Frederick P. Rose Hall – currently there are no performance opportunities for visiting student jazz ensembles, but it is in discussion for future planning.
